Business Ethics, Risk Management,
and the Open Enterprise (Paper)
This short paper introduces the idea that openness in Knowledge
Processing in corporations is an ethical issue. Thus, it explains
that Knowledge Management has an important role to play in guarding
against corporate corruption and malfeasance by shaping the conditions
in which corporate policies and business processes are developed,
tested, and evaluated before, during, and after they are adopted.
It concludes by pointing to the 'Open Enterprise' as an important
new prescriptive model for consideration by boards, managers,
and Ethics Officers as a blueprint for achieving openness in
Knowledge Processing. This paper was written by Mark W. McElroy
in January, 2003.
