Doing Knowledge Management
(Paper)
This paper was co-authored
by Mark W. McElroy with Joseph M. Firestone for publication in
The Learning Organization journal in early 2005. It
discusses different interpretations of KM and asks the rhetorical
question of whether KM has ever really been done. It then
goes on to assert that KM has, in fact, been done in rather rigorous
ways, but only on rare occasions. Of particular interest
is the case taken from Partners HealthCare in Boston, and also
the related practice implications. The paper concludes
by laying out a business-case-driven form of KM that tightly
couples KM interventions with risk reduction and performance
improvement. This is 'The New KM' at its finest!
