Corporate Epistemologies
and KM (Presentation)
This presentation illustrates
the relevance of competing epistemologies to mainstream conceptions
of Knowledge Management in business, in an effort to show that
all of them (i.e., the mainstream conceptions of KM), despite
claims to the contrary, are in fact rooted in specific theories
of truth, whether their practitioners know it or not. This
presentation was further designed to put forward an alternative
to such mainstream points of view, according to which KM can
play a valuable role in mitigating corporate risk by holding
organizational knowledge continuously open to criticism, including
(if not especially) senior management's knowledge. This
presentation was developed by Mark W. McElroy of Macroinnovation
Associates, LLC and Joseph M. Firestone, Ph.D. of Executive Information
Systems, Inc. in connection with their work at KMCI (www.kmci.org).
