Papers & Pitches:IInnovation Management

"Sustainable Innovation and the Prometheus Effect (Presentation)"

This presentation was given by Mark W. McElroy in a keynote speech on June 18, 2004 in Culemborg, Holland at a symposium there entitled: "Sustainable Innovation: The Human Dimension Revisited," an event jointly sponsored by The Dutch National Initiative for Sustainable Development (NIDO), and The Dutch Association of Inventors. In this presentation, Mr. McElroy made the first public disclosure of what he refers to as the 'Epistemological Theory of Sustainability,' a view which suggests that the root of all unsustainable behaviors can be found in dysfunctional human epistemologies. McElroy also claimed that any overall strategy for addressing local and/or global sustainability problems must include a concerted focus on making epistemological reforms in the conduct of human social and economic affairs, policy implications for which he outlined in his talk.
