Macroinnovation Associates,
LLC is a privately-held, Vermont-based management consultancy
formed in 2000 by Mark W. McElroy. The company's services revolve
entirely around a second-generation conception of Knowledge Management
(KM), otherwise known as The New Knowledge Management (TNKM).
What differentiates TNKM from other schools or approaches to
KM is (a) its emphasis on enhancing knowledge production, or
innovation, not just knowledge sharing, and (b) its orientation
towards problem solving. The purpose of KM, according to TNKM,
is to enhance problem solving in organizations, and thereby reduce
risk, eliminate errors, and improve performance. In that regard,
KM can be seen as a kind of quality-control system for knowledge
and action in organizational settings.
Mark W. McElroy is a 30-year veteran of management consulting,
having spent much that time as a partner at KPMG Peat Marwick,
a Director at Price Waterhouse, and a Principal in IBM's Knowledge
Management consulting practice. Separately, Mr. McElroy serves
as Executive Director and Chief Sustainability Officer at the
Center for Sustainable Innovation, Macroinnovation Associates'
non-profit affiliate.
